To optimize UGM's role in society, particularly in the field of social and humanitarian activities, a National Amil Zakat Institution (LAZ) was established under the name RUMAH ZIS CIVITAS UGM. The term "Rumah ZIS" itself reflects the idealism of Baitul Maal during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions, which successfully achieved prosperity for the ummah.

It aims to foster a spirit of solidarity, based on the intention to worship and Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), togetherness, and the enthusiasm to advocate for the shared interests of the local underprivileged (micro) communities.
