
Gunung Kidul, December 4, 2024 โ RUMAH ZIS UGM, in collaboration with its donors, continues to strive to improve access to clean water for the residents of Rejosari, Serut, Gedangsari, Gunung Kidul. The Waqf Well Borehole Donation Project, which began in early November 2024, has now reached its final stages of completion. Below is the latest update on this project:
Project Timeline
November 5, 2024 โ The team initiated the installation of drilling equipment at the designated location. This initial stage was crucial to ensure the drilling site had adequate access and strong structural integrity.
November 6, 2024 โ The well drilling process began. Given the challenging terrain, the work was carried out meticulously to maintain the safety of the surrounding environment.
November 16, 2024 โ A total of seven casing pipes were successfully installed to support the structure of the borehole. This step ensures the well has sturdy protective walls, keeping the water clean and uncontaminated by soil.
November 20, 2024 โ The team conducted a trial pumping of water to ensure the water source’s viability.
November 21, 2024 โ The pump test results showed that the water produced was already clear, marking the success of the drilling process.
Next Steps in the Project
The ongoing work has progressed to the following stages:
- Pipe Distribution Installation: Water from the borehole will be channeled to a reservoir located at the upper part of Rejosari Hamlet to reach more residents.
- Pump House Construction: The youth group of Rejosari Village has worked together to build a pump house to protect the equipment from environmental damage.
- Electrical Connection Installation: The team is currently working on connecting electricity to support the operation of the water pump.
Benefits for the Community
This project is expected to be completed by mid-December 2024. Once the borehole construction is finalized, over 200 residents of Rejosari Hamlet will gain sustainable access to clean water. This water will be utilized for daily needs such as cooking, washing, and agriculture.
