
Yogyakarta, March 5, 2025 – The Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has been honored as the Best University-Based Zakat Collection Unit by BAZNAS DIY. The award was presented by the Vice Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, KGPAA Paku Alam X, during a special appreciation ceremony held at Bangsal Kepatihan, Yogyakarta.
This recognition highlights UPZ UGM’s consistent dedication to transparent and impactful zakat management, including efficient collection, distribution, and oversight. In his speech, the Vice Governor emphasized the vital role of zakat in driving social and economic welfare within the community.
“We deeply appreciate the efforts of these institutions who have worked tirelessly to support zakat programs across the region,” he said.
UPZ UGM was among several institutions honored for their contributions to advancing zakat in the region. Other recipients included the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Department of Youth and Sports Education, RS Nur Hidayah, and other public and private institutions.
This award serves as both recognition and motivation for UPZ UGM to continue innovating and enhancing zakat outreach programs. The unit remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders and expanding the social impact of zakat as a key instrument in poverty alleviation and equitable welfare distribution in Yogyakarta and beyond.
