SLEMAN – On Tuesday (April 22, 2025), a total of 30 underprivileged Muslim converts (muallaf) in Slarongan Hamlet, Sendangmulyo Village, Minggir Sub-district, Sleman Regency received zakat aid as part of a regular empowerment program run by the Muallaf Dhuafa Minggir community. The initiative aims to combine economic support with spiritual development for new Muslims in need.
The zakat distribution was held alongside the community’s monthly Islamic study session, focusing on strengthening faith and understanding of Islamic teachings such as tawhid (monotheism) and basic fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence). This month’s session featured Mr. Sarjiman, a dedicated muallaf who frequently shares his knowledge and experience with convert communities across the region.
This event was also supported by student volunteers from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), including Asti Azhari, Meitha Eka Nurhasanah, Mochamad Rifki Ali Haidar, Kenzie Akmal Komara, Ahmad Shaleh Al Mazid, and Siti Qotijah. Their participation highlighted the spirit of collaboration between zakat institutions, local communities, and young volunteers in uplifting the lives of muallaf through ongoing support.
Through this zakat distribution program, the organizers hope that beneficiaries receive not only financial assistance but also spiritual guidance, helping them feel more confident and supported in their journey as Muslims. It is a reflection of how zakat can be a powerful tool for both compassion and long-term empowerment.
